Keeping Motivated in January
So, we've hit the mid-January slump but surprisingly I'm actually feeling more motivated than I was at the start of the month. I started this year feeling pretty down about the rut I felt that I was stuck in but finally, I've managed to pull myself together and realise if I'm not happy with where I am at the moment then it's time to work damn hard to get myself to where I want to be! In this blog post I thought I'd share a few things that have helped to keep me motivated this month.
01.Get organised: It always really helps me when my workspace is all tidy and looking pretty. I currently don't have a proper little desk area but just going through all my design / shop stuff and getting rid of all the random scraps of paper helps me to feel a lot more organised and on top of things.
02.Set goals: This helps to keep me on track and reminds me why I'm are putting all this effort in. I've set myself both yearly goals and smaller, more manageable goals that I hope to achieve throughout the year. I work best when I know I have deadlines to meet so setting goals helps make me work to these.
03.Plan for the week: While goal setting for the year helps me to look at what I want to achieve for the year as a whole, planning weekly means I can re-evaluate the amount of work that I'm able to get done in one week. It, also, means when a week doesn't go to plan I don't beat myself up about it, I just adjust my plan for the next week to work round the things I didn't get done that week.
04.Start with the hardest task: I know, I know, it always seems so much easier to work your way up to a horrible task with a few nice, little tasks first. But honestly, getting the worst task out the way first thing when you are feeling most productive means you can enjoy the rest of you day doing other tasks that you actually enjoy.
05.Remember to relax and enjoy it: While being motivated and working towards your goals 24/7 is great, just remember to take time for yourself and not get burnt out. You want to be able to enjoy the process and not spend the whole year being stressed and feeling like you can never take a night off. Everyone needs a break and to #treatyoself every once in a while — or in my case, definitely once a week!
