New Blog, New Design, New Me?
Aaaaand I'm back, again! Hello and welcome to the new — and hopefully, improved — the floral elephant. It's been two whole months since I last posted on here and I am so excited to get back to creating content and sharing my blog's new look with you.
Alongside some major life changes, I lost my love for blogging. I felt like I was constantly just trying to keep up and churning out blog posts for the sake of getting content out there. I'd feel so guilty if I couldn't keep up and I don't know how many times in the last year that I apologised for failing to post. But now, I'm putting a stop to all the apologising and accepting that, yes, life does get in the way sometimes and if I don't stick to a schedule then it's not the end of the world.
So, why the design change?
After spending the first year and a half hosting the floral elephant on Blogger I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to have more freedom with my design and find an easier way of setting out posts the way I want them to look. I'm now over on Squarespace which so far has been such an easy process. From a design point: you just pick a starting template, edit it how you wish and use their simple drag and drop feature to perfect your layout. And when it comes to blog writing you set out your content using the same easy to use feature — I'm really looking forward to playing about with my blog post layouts in the future.
I wanted more of a photography focussed layout for my blog so one page that has majorly changed from my previous design is the home page, which is now solely image based — because who doesn't love big, eventually swoon-worthy photos?
Another exciting new element is I finally have my own domain. Goodbye Blogger subdomain, hello thefloralelphant.com. Well if I'm going to do it, better do it properly, eh?
So, what's next?
I want to welcome a new way of blogging to my blog, slow blogging. I heard about slow blogging through Jen Carrington's podcasts and I've fallen in love with the sound of this way of blogging. Focussing on quality over quantity and allowing myself to really enjoy creating content I love — and that, hopefully, you'll love too!
So yeah, that's all for now! Let me know what you think of the new design in the comments below as I'd love any feedback. Also, what do you think of the sound of slow blogging? Do you use this approach to blogging? How do you find it? — I'd love to know!
